A subsidiary of Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp. filed a motion with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio asking the Commission to cancel the certification of its R.E. Burger coal-fired power plant as a biomass facility. FirstEnergy announced that it was canceling the project in November 2010 because of low market prices for electricity. This week's filing at the Commission is necessary to officially close the books on the proposed project. However, a case involving the facility is still pending at the Ohio Supreme Court. The motion to cancel the certificate is available here. Background on the Burger project is available here and here.
