On March 18, the Maryland General Assembly sent H.B. 226, the Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013, to Gov. Martin O’Malley’s (D) for his signature. The bill would qualify offshore wind as a source under Maryland’s renewable energy portfolio standard, requiring that utilities’ supply a certain percent of offshore wind energy set by the Public Service Commission on a yearly basis. Gov. O’Malley has already said he would sign the bill.
