Speaking at a recent symposium on globalisation on European Trade at The Hague, Commissioner for Trade, Peter Mandelson, announced that the European Commission is considering a review of the EU’s trade defence instruments (e.g. its anti-dumping legislation). He suggested that while defending the EU from unfair trade practices may well be justified, the current rules are not well adapted to take into account current production practices and in some cases may inhibit European companies from pursuing rational production strategies or be otherwise counterproductive.
