On 25 May 2016, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (“BIS”) launched a consultation titled “Options to refine the UK competition regime”.

In the light of the major changes to the UK competition regime introduced in recent years, including those in the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, BIS has not proposed any major changes to the UK competition regime in this consultation. This consultation invites views on options to refine certain aspects of merger control, market investigations and competition law enforcement, as well as minor changes in relation to the structure, powers and procedures of the Competition and Markets Authority, Competition Appeal Tribunal and Payments Systems Regulator.
