The European Commission previously expressed disapproval with Microsoft's proposed ‘remedy’ for unbundling Microsoft's Internet Explorer from its Windows operating system by providing the two products entirely separately. Microsoft has announced an alternative plan to release Windows 7 in October 2009 with a ‘ballot screen’. This would enable purchasers of the new Windows operating system the choice of using either Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser, or to install competing browser software. The Commission is currently reviewing these proposals and is yet to comment publicly on them.
