Transparency International PNG Inc (“TIPNG”) has called on the Papa New Guinea Government to revisit the Taiwan “dollar-for-diplomacy” scandal. It said in a statement that while Taiwan had prosecuted and was prosecuting its citizens over the scandal, Papua New Guinea authorities and government had been slow to move on the matter. A Singapore newspaper reported last year that unnamed representatives from Papua New Guinea had in October 2006 asked for approximately US$29million, intended as “technical assistance”, to be transferred to an account in Singapore in return for support from individuals in the Papua New Guinea government.
