On February 11, 2010, the Senate confirmed several of President Obama’s nominees for positions in the Department of Commerce and the Department of Treasury, including:
- Kevin Wolf to serve as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration (Wolf is a partner at Bryan Cave LLP whose practice focuses on export controls and economic sanctions matters)
- David Mills to serve as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement
- Marisa Lago to serve as Assistant Secretary for International Markets and Development (In this position, Lago is responsible for leading Treasury’s role on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and will also direct Treasury’s portfolio on international financial services regulation, trade, banking and securities, development, technical assistance and climate finance)
However, the Senate confirmations did not include the nomination of Eric Hirschhorn to serve as Under Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, or the nomination of Lael Brainard to serve as Undersecretary of the Treasury for International Affairs.
Separately, in January 2010, the Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) confirmed that Lisa Studtmann now serves as the Director of the Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance.
