The Governor General of Canada has granted the Prime Minister his request to have Parliament suspended until January 26, 2009. This decision comes after a flurry of activity in Ottawa over the past week which saw the federal opposition parties sign an agreement to form a coalition government and serve notice of a non-confidence motion with the purpose of taking power away from the Conservative minority government. The Conservatives plan to use the next few weeks to prepare the federal budget which will be tabled on January 27, 2009 with a confidence vote likely to be held in the first week of February.
