Local governments are required to review their planning schemes every 10 years under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
The majority of local governments are currently in the process of reviewing their planning schemes.
The Toowoomba Regional Planning Scheme which came into effect on 1st July 2012 was the first region-wide planning scheme to be adopted under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
Sunshine Coast Regional Council is the second local government to complete its planning scheme review, and the Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2012 (Draft Planning Scheme) has now been released for public comment.
The Draft Planning Scheme has the potential to affect development rights for property in the Sunshine Coast, and property owners will not always be compensated for changes to a planning scheme.
Submissions in relation to any changes proposed under the Draft Planning Scheme must be made in writing to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council on or before Friday 14 December 2012.
