On May 20, 2010, the Department of State (DOS) announced that nonimmigrant visa application processing fees paid at U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad, also called the Machine-Readable Visa (MRV) fee, will increase and will be tiered, with separate fees for different nonimmigrant visa categories. The new fees will go into effect on June 4, 2010. The new MRV fee for non-petition-based nonimmigrant visa categories (B-1/B-2, F, M and J) will be $140.00. The new MRV fee for petition-based nonimmigrant visa categories (H, L, O, P, Q and R) will be $150.00. The new MRV fee for the E visa category will be $390.00 and the new MRV fee for the K visa category will be $350.00.
NOTE - Nonimmigrant visa applicants will be required to pay the MRV fee in effect on the day of their visa appointment, regardless of when they pay the fee.
