On 30 April 2018 Australia's Minister for Regional Communications Senator Bridget McKenzie announced the beginning of the 2018 Regional Telecommunications Review (the Review). The Review will focus on identifying opportunities for regional communities to access the benefits of digital technologies and broadband services.
The review will look at telecommunications connectivity in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia and examine:
- how regional Australia can maximise the economic and social benefits of new digital technologies
- how regional consumers currently use their broadband services
- the coverage achieved through the Mobile Black Spot program and the remaining gaps in mobile coverage throughout regional Australia
Results of the Review are expected to be reported to Government by late September 2018. Details on how to participate in the public consultation process will be made available shortly here.
