The Commission has opened an investigation into whether airport charges set by Aarhus Lufthavn A/S at Aarhus airport constitute state aid to Ryanair and other airlines. The charges may be deemed to be state aid if Aarhus Lufthavn does not set them independently from the public authorities and the arrangements are not in accordance with the market economy investor principle. If the charges do amount to aid then the Commission will need to decide if such aid is compatible with the common market. The Commission has formally requested further information from the Danish authorities in order to assess these issues. Ryanair and the Danish authorities will have an opportunity to comment on the Commission’s initial findings.
