On 22 December 2009, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) applied to the Competition Appeal Tribunal to quash the decision of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) not to make a market investigation reference to the Competition Commission. CAMRA claims that the OFT failed to properly examine its claims that there is insufficient competition in the beer market and that beer supply ties and other exclusive purchasing obligations have an adverse impact resulting in high beer prices and poor facilities. In January 2010, CAMRA launched a public campaign seeking contributions from consumers to help fund its competition appeal.
