• On February 23, 2011, Sprint filed a motion with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) urging it to reconsider its recent order asserting jurisdiction over intrastate VoIP traffic in light of the FCC’s recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on intercarrier compensation that seeks comment on the proper classification of VoIP traffic. Sprint’s motion stems from a February 4, 2011 decision of the IUB holding that Sprint’s intrastate VoIP traffic is subject to state regulation and requires compensation under Iowa Telecom’s intrastate switched access tariff. In that Order, the IUB directed Sprint to pay amounts owed to Iowa Telecom for switched access services on VoIP traffic. Sprint has asked the IUB to stay the payment obligation while it considers the motion. Sprint Commc’ns Co. L.P. v. Iowa Telecomms. Servs. d/b/a Iowa Telecom, Docket No. FCU-2010-0001.
