Verizon has released its first Transparency Report.  Other tech companies, such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Apple, and Twitter have already published such reports.  AT&T and Sprint have announced that they, too, will begin releasing transparency reports. Verizon’s first report covers January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013, but the company noted that future reports will be updated semi-annually. The company also stated that government requests for customers’ information increased from 2012 to 2013. Although limited by the government’s restrictions on how much communications providers can say about different types of national security process they receive, Verizon’s Report on the whole offers a good deal of information and explanations.
