The DOS has notified U.S. consular posts of the upcoming worldwide implementation of the DS-160 web-based nonimmigrant visa application format. At this time, the web-based DS-160 is being used at 25 U.S. consular posts. With new posts gradually added, the DOS expects the complete switch to the new application format by April 30, 2010. Importantly, the new DS-160 form combines data previously collected on the DS-156, DS-157, and DS-158 forms used in nonimmigrant visa application proceedings at consulates. E visa applicants that are currently required to use both DS-160 and DS-156E forms will continue to submit a hard copy of DS-156E until it is replaced by electronic format in the near future.
