Mr Pickles has today announced his decision to revoke the first of the regional strategies to meet its end - this will be the East of England Plan which will be revoked from 3 January 2013 along with saved structure plan policies. The announcement comes with the post adoption statement required by the strategic environmental assessment regime and which explains how the environmental statement published earlier in the year has been taken into account along with responses to the consultation.

I do not think we have even yet seen formal environmental reports for all of the regional stratagies - so it looks like we will be in for a period of certainly many months when the position is a shifting one as to which authorities are subject to regional strategy and which are not. Whether and how that impacts on the duty to co-operate remains to be seen.
