The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be one of two franchises in the NHL that will have advertisements on their practice jerseys (the other being the Calgary Flames) after cutting a deal with the Giordano's pizza chain. The NHL, along with the NFL and NBA, recently allowed advertisements to be featured on practice jerseys, but so far, those leagues have not allowed advertisements on game jerseys. The WNBA and the MLS do allow advertisements on game jerseys. Watch for each league's stance to further relax given the financial benefits of selling ad space on players' jerseys. Of note, the 20 teams in the UK's English Premier League raised $155 million in jersey sponsorship this season. Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, says such jersey ad deals are "definitely on the horizon" in the U.S., and Joe Maloof, whose family owns the NBA's Sacramento Kings and WNBA Monarchs, has said of ads on jerseys, "It's a new economic climate now. Any time you can generate revenue in the right way, you should be able to do it. You have to. If we can find the right partner, why not?"
