The European Commission has published a final report relating to the outcome of its review of EMIR following its consultation during 2015. The report provides a summary of the areas where consultation responses and specific input received from various authorities have shown that action is necessary to ensure the objectives of EMIR are met in a more proportionate, efficient and effective manner. The Commission's conclusion is that no fundamental change should be made to the nature of the core requirements of EMIR, although there are a number of areas where the EMIR requirements could be adjusted without compromising on its overall objectives. The Commission intends to propose a legislative review of EMIR in 2017.
