The General Revenue Directorate (DGI) by General Administrative Order No. 3-2015 published in La Gaceta, Number 188 of October 6th, 2015, announced the change in RUC identity card printing material from paper format to PVC material.

New RUC identification cards (cedulas) will have the following characteristics:

1. General Information; 2. RUC number in barcode; 3. Magnetic stripe containing the RUC Number and business name of Taxpayers; 4. QR code; and 5. Document Number.

This new format of the RUC identity card allows electronic revalidation every two years, with the taxpayer's updated data. Identity cards may also be requested, for those taxpayers with branches or subsidiaries, after their corresponding registry.

For new registrations, taxpayers will be issued provisional RUC identity, valid for a ninety day period for the confirmation of the economic activity. Then, the definite RUC identity card will be issued. This change is intended to facilitate "the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and security in all steps, procedures and activities."
