It’s now just over a year to go until the Agency Workers Regulations 2011 come into force (they are due to come into force on 1 October 2011). However the long lead in time should not make employers who rely on agency worker arrangements complacent - there is much in the draft Regulations to get to grips with.
When published, the general view was that it was unlikely we would seek much in the way of material changes, given the amount of consultation that had already taken place in relation to the content of the Regulations. However on 5 July 2010 the new Secretary of State for the Department of Business Innovation and Skills announced that the Regulations would be subject to a review, citing that the Government was aware of the "different points of view expressed by the business community" in relation to the Regulations.
With the return of the Coalition from their summer break we will watch developments closely and update on any proposed changes as soon as details become available.
