On July 7, the North Carolina Offshore Wind Coalition, a group of academic, government, conservation, and other interested groups from North Carolina and South Carolina, announced their new organizationʼs aim is to accelerate the development of wind energy projects in the region. The interested parties recently met in Charlotte, NC to kick-start their campaign. Ralph Nichols, wind energy program manager for the Energy Department's Savannah River National Laboratory in South Carolina, said the coasts of the Carolinas have immense wind energy potential, while Georgia and Virginia also have a notable amount of offshore wind power.
