In brief

On 4 August 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) issued Official Letter No. 6288/BYT-MT on shortening the period of centralized quarantine for people who have received sufficient doses of COVID-19 vaccine (“Official Letter No. 6288“).

Key takeaways

According to Official Letter No. 6288, the centralized quarantine period for travelers entering Vietnam is reduced to seven days for those who:

  • Have a negative test result for SARS-CoV-2 (by RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method) within 72 hours before departure, certified by the competent authority of the country performing the test; and
  • Have received sufficient doses of COVID-19 vaccine from 14 days to 12 months prior to the entry and have a certificate of vaccination; or have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 no more than 6 months prior to the entry and have a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 disease (or equivalent document) issued by the competent authority in the country of treatment.

Travelers entering Vietnam will be tested on the first and seventh days. After completing the centralized quarantine and during the self-health monitoring period at the places of residence, these travelers must always follow the so-called ‘5K’ (in English: mask, disinfection, distance, no gathering, health declaration) and continue to use the Bluezone app for 14 days from the date of entry.
