Richard Branson says Virgin’s performance has benefitted from its employees having unlimited holidays

However, there are a number of practical issues which need to be considered for this concept to work:-

  • There must be a limit on the amount of holiday which is paid
  • There should be controls in place for ensuring that holiday taken is subject to the needs of the business
  • A consistent approach should be adopted across all areas of the business
  • The business needs to have a system in place to ensure that this does not result in some people taking no holiday
  • Measures need to be in place to ensure there are no discrimination issues as a result
