The commercial and legal concerns caused by the delay between an application being made for a natural health product licence and the issuance of that licence (a delay of years in some cases) may now be resolved by the newly-proposed Natural Health Products (Unprocessed Product Licence Applications) Regulations. These new regulations will create an exemption from existing licensing requirements for natural health products for which a licence application has been filed but no licence was issued within 180 days of the application.

Although the new regulations will not apply to all unlicensed products, the regulations will still solve a current problem for a significant number of natural health products on the Canadian market - the sale of unlicensed products in contravention of current Canadian requirements.

Interested persons may comment on the draft regulations until June 7.
