Penningtons has seen an increase in the type of course structures that HEIs are offering. As a reminder, an HEI is able to assign a single Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) for a pre-sessional and a main course if certain criteria are met, which include:
- the main course of study is at degree level;
- the pre-sessional course is no more than three months long; and
- the main course will start no later than one month after the date when the pre-sessional course ends.
If courses which are being offered to international students under Tier 4 do not meet the above requirements (which allow a single CAS to be assigned), then one CAS is required for the pre-sessional course and, providing the student passes the pre-sessional course, a second CAS can then be assigned for the main course of study.
If alternative course structures are being considered, HEIs must ensure that all main courses on offer are appropriatly validated. If a single CAS is assigned to a Tier 4 student where a course has not been appropriately validated, this could lead to the revocation of the sponsor licence.
