The ACCC was of the view that the proposed acquisition of Viterra Inc would be unlikely to substantially lessen competition, as post merger Glencore would continue to face competition from a number of significant competitors in the market for grain trading in South Australia.

The ACCC also granted clearance to the proposed acquisition by Glencore International plc of Xstrata plc, finding no likelihood of anticompetitive effects arising from the vertical integration of Xstrata’s mining and production activities with Glencore’s third party trading activities.  The ACCC is the first competition regulator to hand down a decision on this global transaction.
