On February 13, 2007, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich announced a statewide goal to reduce the production of greenhouse gases (GHGs) to 1990 levels by 2020 and to 60 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.10 The Governor’s Climate Change Advisory Group will be responsible for identifying cost-effective measures and recommending strategies to meet these GHG reduction goals. The advisory group is comprised of business leaders, labor unions, the energy and agricultural industries, scientists, and environmental and consumer groups, and will be chaired by the Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
