Various privacy legislation passed in China in 2016. We expect to see more on the horizon. For example, in the summer of 2016 the State Administration of Industry and Commerce solicited comments on proposed regulations to implement the existing Consumer Rights Protection Law. Under the regulation, the amount of personal information that can be collected would be limited to that which is relevant to the company’s business operations. Where consumer consent is required, records of that consent would need to be kept for five years.
TIP: Those with Chinese operations should keep in mind the possibility of future privacy developments in that country this year. Read more here.
