This week the Energy Independence Bill (NE L.B. 921) was introduced before the Nebraska State Legislature. The bill does multiple things in order to lead Nebraska towards energy independence. One of the goals of the bill is to establish the Nebraska Energy Council, whose goal would be to bring together government entities to push towards energy efficiency and independence. The Council will also be responsible for monitoring federal activity on energy independence and efficiency and making sure Nebraska makes similar laws that are consistent with the federal plan.

The bill also sets forth to establish the Carbon Sequestration Advisory Committee. However, the bill does not go as far to state exactly what the committee would be responsible for.
