On 20 June 2014, the FCA published finalised guidance on annuity comparison websites following its recent review and consultation in this regard.  Key issues discovered by the FCA and highlighted in the guidance include that adequate information/warnings should be provided to customers regarding (a) the fact that the decision to purchase an annuity is usually final and can't be revoked, (b) alternatives to buying an annuity and (c) how the decision to purchase an annuity may dovetail with a customer's retirement plans and financial position.  Notably, all websites reviewed by the FCA raised concerns, though good practice was found to be present in relation to use of straightforward language and presenting alternative options to annuities.
