As of May 1, 2009, the official fee for filing an application for a European Community Trademark (often called a “CTM”) will be increased by approximately $200 - from €750 (~$1,009 US) to €900 (~$1,211 US) if filed electronically, and to €1050 (~$1,415 US) if filed by fax or paper. The official fee for additional classes (beyond three) will remain €150 (~$202 US) per class.

However, the present registration fees of €750 (~$1,009 US) for the first three classes, plus €150 (~$202 US) per additional class, will be discontinued for any new application filed after May 1, 2009, and also for any pending application that has not been approved for registration as of May 1, 2009. Paper certificates of registration will not be issued after May 1, 2009.

Businesses considering the filing of a CTM application in the near future should do so in April 2009 in order to avoid the increased fees.
