In an effort to assist exempt organizations in maintaining compliance with IRS regulations, the IRS expanded its on-line programs in 2007. The IRS launched “Stay Exempt,” a Web-based workshop that addresses compliance issues for exempt organizations. The workshop focuses on five key areas: 1) maintaining exempt status; 2) unrelated business income; 3) employment tax issues; 4) Form 990; and 5) disclosure requirements. The IRS reports that the workshop has been highly trafficked and that users have provided favorable reviews.
The IRS also included four additional “Life Cycle” segments to its Web Site in 2007. The Life Cycle program is designed to assist exempt organizations in each stage of their existence by providing information ranging from how to start an exempt organization to how to notify the IRS of material changes.
