Following cookie compliance inspections carried out this year, the French Data Protection Authority (the CNIL) has issued further guidance in relation to website cookie use. The CNIL considers that in both of the scenarios set out in the guidance, the implementation of cookies is triggered by the user's visit to the website. Therefore, the editor must provide users with information on the cookies implemented on their browser and provide the means to reject these cookies. However, the CNIL notes that the regulatory framework is likely to change, as the European Commission announced the implementation of new rules by the end of 2017.
