A discussion document outlining proposals for new health and safety regulations has been released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

The Health and Safety Reform Bill currently before Transport and Industrial Relations Committee will, if enacted, create the Health and Safety at Work Act, replacing the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. The Government’s intention is that the new Act will come into force from 1 April 2015.

The Bill will be supported by two phases of regulation. The proposals for the first phase of regulations are included in this discussion paper - ‘Developing regulations to support the new Health and Safety at Work Act’.

Submissions on this discussion paper close on 1 August 2014.
