New measures are being introduced to open up government procurement for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The package of proposed measures will include:

  • The introduction of a standard core pre-qualification questionnaire for all central government bodies;
  • A “contracts finder system” comprising a centralised system open to small businesses to identify public sector and sub-contracting opportunities; and
  • A review of causes of delay and recommendations to assist in resolving these issues.

Related item: There will be a new reporting system from 2011 under which Government Departments will be asked to indicate contracts that have been awarded to SMEs.
