The European Commission adopted regulations on April 17, 2013, that will phase out use of the solvent tricholoroethylene (TCE) as well as six chromium compounds in the European Union (EU). The rule establishes a sunset date of April 21, 2016, for TCE, and September 21, 2017, for chromium trioxide and acids generated from chromium trioxide and their oligomers; sodium dichromate; potassium dichromate; ammonium dichromate; potassium chromate; and sodium chromate.
