WIS News reported on July 21, 2016 about the City of Columbia's effort to create a new social media policy, which is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming weeks. The television station called on Nexsen Pruet's William Floyd, acertified Labor & Employment Law specialist, for insight into what goes into creating such policies.

Floyd told reporter Caroline Patrickis that there is a difference between public and private businesses:

"A public employee is working on behalf of the fellow citizen so they hold a position of trust. When you draft that policy, you need to reflect that in the policy. Yes, they have the right of free speech but the right of free speech does have some limits in a public employee setting."
