It has been reported that G-Mobile, a mobile phone licence holder in Malawi, plans to sue the country’s Minister of Information, Mr Symon Vuwa Kaunda, for accusing the company of trying to bribe him. The company has stated that the allegation that G-Mobile offered Mr Kaunda MWK5 million ($33,000) to help persuade the telecoms regulator to reduce a fine for not starting services on time damaged its reputation. Mr Kaunda did not report the bribe to the anti-corruption bureau or police, but has stated that he will co-operate if those agencies decide to investigate the matter.
