The Global Entry Program allows pre-approved, low risk travelers expedited clearance upon arrival into the United States. The process requires participants to present a machine-readable U.S. passport or Permanent Resident card, submit their fingerprints for biometric verification and make a customs declaration at a kiosk touch-screen. Upon successful completion of the process, the U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident traveler will be issued a transaction receipt and directed to the baggage claim and exit unless chosen for a selective or random secondary referral. This program has recently been expanded from JFK International Airport in New York, Washington Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. and Bush Intercontinental Airport in Dallas, Texas to additional large international airports around the United States, including O’Hare International Airport. CBP created the system in order to streamline the admission process for certain low risk U.S. citizen and lawful permanent resident international travelers. Applications are submitted through and an administrative processing fee for a five-year membership of $100 is charged at the time of application.
