On 17 October 2007, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) published information suggesting that 2.8m households had switched energy supplier in the first 7 months of 2007. OFGEM claims that customers were benefiting from the increased competition in the sector, and that customers who had switched supplier had generally made significant savings in the cost of their gas and electricity bills. OFGEM also suggests that the increased competition meant that suppliers were also competing on the quality of service and innovation offered to their customers.
