Recent Developments

The Mexican Immigration Law was published in the Mexican Federal Official Gazette on May 25, 2011.  This law stated that the mobility and visa sections of the law would not be valid until the Regulations to the Immigration Law were published.  The Regulations to the Immigration Law were published on September 28, 2012.  These regulations determine that they will come into effect 30 working days after their publication, that is, the Immigration Law and Regulations to the Immigration Law will become effective on November 9, 2012.

Implications

It is important to mention that, although the Immigration Law and its Regulations have been published, there is still a lot of information that is not available regarding the application of the law and its regulations. Both the law and its regulations make reference to additional guidelines that have not yet been approved and published.  Without these guidelines, visa processes and requirement, visa forms, as well as other details have not yet been made available.  We would expect for these guidelines to be published before November 9, 2012.
