Ex-Apprentice contestant Katie Hopkins has sparked controversy over her comments in a report for the BBC’s One Show following a newspaper article in which she argued that the extended maternity protection is in fact counter-productive against women, as its impact would be that employers would simply avoid employing women.

Katie infamously returned to work only three weeks after having had each of her three children. She questioned the benefits of having a long period of time away from work: “the thought of taking a long maternity leave, becoming a bloated, brainless version of your former self and spending endless days pureeing carrots is beyond me”.

Presumably, David Cameron and Nick Clegg disagree.
