The NAPF has pushed for an amendment to the Pensions Bill to add a sixth statutory objective for the Pensions Regulator (TPR). The amendment to the Bill added a new objective of promoting the provision of "good pension and to ensure health and longevity". It is understood that the NAPF believes that TPR is too overtly focused on looking after the interests of the Pension Protection Fund, which can result in the TPR not necessarily promoting good-quality workplace provision. The NAPF had considered that adding the new objective would create a healthy tension in TPRs aims so as to ensure that other objective of protecting the PPF would not dominate. The draft amendment to the Pensions Bill was, however, withdrawn after debate in Parliament but there is a possibility that it may be tabled again later.
