As employers will be aware, prevention of illegal working checks need to be undertaken for all employees and this also includes employees who are only employed periodically or on an ad hoc basis. We have found in the past that external examiners or other part-time workers who often fall outside standard recruitment processes, do not automatically have their right to work documents checked as per the mandatory prevention of illegal working requirement.  We recommend, therefore, that HR staff review all employment routes into an organisation to ensure that all employees, regardless of the length or type of employment, have their documents checked in line with this mandatory requirement.
