Cellcom, an Israeli cellular carrier has settled a class action brought against it by a customer who was charged for WAP internet browsing beyond his basic payment plan. According to the lawsuit,Cellcom inserted advertisement banners to web pages and by that led to a significant increase in the volume of monthly browsing without the customers’ knowledge and without obtaining their consent. The plaintiff also argued that the placing of advertising banners violated the Telecommunications Law, which prohibits unsolicited advertisement without obtaining the recipient’s consent.

The company reached a settlement (which was approved by the court) to pay back the extra fees paid on top of the basic browsing pricing package.
