The Bill was introduced into Queensland Parliament on 9 September 2014 and proposes to amend several health portfolio Acts, including the Health Ombudsman Act 2013 (Qld) and Mental Health Act 2000 (Qld).  Other proposed amendments include a new exception in the Hospital Health Boards Act 2011 (Qld) to the duty of confidentiality to allow the sharing of patient information with non-government service providers who provide public health services for Queensland Health and amendments to the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998 (Qld) to subject e-cigarettes to identical laws as regular cigarettes by incorporating “inhale through a personal vaporiser” into the definition of “smoke”.  The Bill would also alleviate overly restrictive prohibitions around buying, selling and advertising human tissue based products in the Transplantation and Anatomy Act 1979(Qld) in an attempt to facilitate legitimate trade in such products.  The Bill has been referred to the Health and Community Services Committee.
