Peer review of regulatory approach to SIFIs. The Financial Stability Board launched a peer review on supervisory frameworks and approaches to systemically important financial institutions. Securitization survey. The International Organization of Securities Commissions and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision are conducting a survey of the global securitization marketplace. IOSCO report on risk identification methodologies. The International Organization of Securities Commissions published a report on Risk Identification and Assessment Methodologies for Securities Regulators, which provides a practical overview of the methods, approaches and tools that IOSCO and securities regulators have developed to identify and assess emerging and potential systemic risks. Basel Committee issues revised principles for supervisory colleges. The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision issued revised “Principles for effective supervisory colleges.” The revisions reflect the experience of Committee members in applying the original principles, published in 2010, together with emerging good practice in the role and operation of colleges. The principles aim to promote and strengthen international cooperation and supervision of internationally active banks by providing guidelines to support the operation of supervisory colleges. They supplement broader guidance issued by the Basel Committee on cross-border cooperation and information-sharing. (6/26/2014) BIS press release. 

Proposed revisions to the Pillar 3 disclosure requirements. The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision published for consultation its “Review of the Pillar 3 disclosure requirements,” which aim to enhance comparability across banks by ensuring greater consistency in the way they disclose information about risk exposures. Basel Committee consults on supervisory guidelines. The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision published for comment a consultation entitled “Supervisory guidelines for identifying and dealing with weak banks.” The consultation would update the Basel Committee’s guidelines concerning the need for early intervention and the use of recovery and resolution tools; provide further guidance for improving supervisory processes; highlight the issues of liquidity shortfalls, excessive concentrations, misaligned compensation and inadequate risk management; and expand guidelines for information-sharing and cooperation among relevant authorities. IOSCO survey of securities markets risks. The International Organization of Securities Commissions published a staff working paper entitled “A Survey of Securities Markets Risk Trends 2014: Methodology and Detailed Results,” which provides a detailed analysis of responses to its annual survey on market trends and emerging risks.
