The Industrial Relations (Voting Procedures) Bill was proposed on 26 April 2011 and would have amended existing trade union legislation to make some strikes illegal if they were not supported by a majority of union members at the workplace concerned. Presently, merely the majority of those union members who vote must support the strike action in order for it to be legal. Despite some support for the Bill, it was felt that the threshold was too high and the motion for leave to introduce the Bill was rejected.
