Joining a number of recent legislators not seeking re-election, Rep. Brad Finstad (R-Comfrey) has stated this term will be his last. After serving three terms in the legislature, including time as Assistant House Minority leader and the lead Republican on the House Agriculture, Rural Economies and Veterans Affairs Finance Division, Finstad will most likely be remembered as the chief House author of the Twins stadium bill.

Finstad said being a career legislator was never his intent and, with three small kids at home, he looks forward to spending more time with his family: “I’ll go to a parade and watch it with my kids instead of being in it.” Finstad’s decision puts one more Republican seat up for grabs and, though his district is typically a Republican stronghold, it will be another fight the Democrats will wage in an effort to become a majority with veto-override power.
